Flood alert: Situation remains grim in Assam, Arunachal, railways affected in Bihar

Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal reviewed the situation yesterday as over six lakh people are reeling under the fury of flood in Assam.

Kaziranga national park authorities have said that the flood situation of the park is alarming. The Divisional Forest Officer of the park said that 50 numbers of anti poaching camps are submerged.

The Chief Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioners in all flood hit districts to hold review meeting today.

Sonowal told the administration to deploy medical van and child specialists at relief camps.

Agriculture minister Atul Bora said, necessary steps will be taken to compensate farmers at Rabi season.

Flood water affected 46 thousand hectares of agriculture land in 13 districts.

Poultry and fishery sectors have also been severely affected in current flood.

In Arunachal Pradesh, continuous rain and swelling Noa-Dihing and other rivers have submerged more than 50 villages in Namsai, Lohit and Changlang districts.

Low-lying areas of Pasighat township in East Siang district have been completely inundated by the over flowing Siang river.

More than 20 safe houses have been set up by the government in the State where hundreds of people are taking shelter.

Director Disaster Management Arunachal Pradesh Y W Ringu said that NDRF teams have been positioned in all the vulnerable districts and medical teams are ready for immediate disposals.

She also said that Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Sakuntala Gamlin is constantly monitoring the flood situation in the state and till now they have not received any SOS call from the flood torn districts.

In Bihar, movement of trains on Saharsa-Mansi Rail Section of East Central railway has been stopped for three days due to flood in Koshi area.

Several trains have been diverted as flood waters inundate railway tracks at some places. Koshi, Bagmati and Adhwara group of rivers are flowing above danger mark.

Flood situation is grim in Katihar, Purnia, Supaul and Araria districts.

People are facing hardships in low laying areas of Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Muzaffarpur districts.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed to step-up relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas.
