Officials assured that all necessary assistance is being provided to people, as incessant rainfall in Gujarat on Wednesday triggered rise in the level of floodwater, inundated houses, clogging roads and paralysed routine life of people in the affected areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel Narayan Tiwari said that they, along with the fire brigade personnel were engaged in the rescue operation.
"Here everyone is providing all the necessary assistance to the officials of NDRF. The head officials are at all locations. According to the guidance given to us we have distributed the forces to GECL colony, where the water-logging is seen to be around 4 to 5 feet. The people who are staying in the first floor have all been evacuated and they are all shifted to a local guest house nearby," Tiwari said.
The overflowing Narmada River raised concerns as the gushing water flooded Vadodara and Bharuch districts.
The flooding has caused widespread damage as homes and businesses have been destroyed. Farmlands in the area have also been washed away.
Additionally, villages have been left cut off from daily life as roads have been washed away, bridges ripped apart and highways buried under tonnes of mud and boulders.
India experiences monsoons from June to September, vital for its agriculture. But the rains frequently affect millions of people, devastating crops and homes and sparking outbreaks of diseases such as diarrhea and dysentery.
