Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Wednesday accused the Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led BJP Government in Madhya Pradesh of indulging in corruption while giving out compensation to farmers, alleging that the state sees every natural disaster as an 'opportunity' to make money.
"The Congress has always fought for the farmers. I would like congratulate all the Congress leaders in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly for undertaking this struggle in the interest of the people. Farmers are yet to get last year's compensation and payment from the insurance companies. The finance department sees every natural disaster as an opportunity to make money. Those who pay money, their cases are taken up," Singh said.
"All the surveys are documented using a pencil in villages, which is changed at the Tehsil office. This government runs on commissions, there is a commission for everything from top to bottom. Pay the money and take compensation. We are going to take this fight to all the villages," he added.
On Tuesday, Congress leaders in the state held an overnight dharna inside the Madhya Pradesh Assembly to protest against the new Land Acquisition Bill.
Earlier this month, the Lok Sabha passed The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 amid a walkout by opposition parties even as the government moved nine amendments to address the concerns raised by farmers.
