A former extremist has created an animated web series called "Abdullah X" to stop young Muslims from treading the path of extremism.

The cartoon series is the tale of a young Muslim man in London who is struggling with his identity and his faith, CNN reports.

The creator of the series, who goes by a pseudo name- Ahmed, on condition of anonymity, told CNN that the story was based on his own experience.

He talked about how he struggled with his own identity and sense of belonging while growing up and issues around self-esteem and confidence and as to where he fit in with regards to his Britishness or his Muslimness.

Ahmed revealed that he spent years helping to spread and vocalize "extreme and harsh" worldviews in Britain.

He said that young people were the most vulnerable groups in society and were often caught between government policy perspectives on how one combats terrorism and extremism, and this wall of shame and denial from within communities.

So, he decided to create something innovative and engaging in order to deviate their minds and hence Abdullah X was born.

His narratives intend to prevent young Muslims from straying and falling into the trap of IS jihadists, who have been actively posting videos and write-ups on the Internet to brainwash and incite them into fighting for them.

Ahmed said that he'll have achieved the project's objective if he could save one person from going to die in some foreign land, or attempting to do something in his homeland or her homeland.
