After 14 years, Irom Sharmila Chanu visited the Ima market for the first time as thousands of people, in support of her movement, thronged Ima market to receive her.
After her release, Sharmila went to the Manipur Press Club, where she addressed the media and public.
While Sharmila was addressing the public and media, Imphal west Police were deployed to avoid any unwanted incident.
Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Sharmila was released from security ward, JNIMS yesterday evening but she continued her fast uninterrupted.
Sharmila, who was arrested on the charge of attempting to commit suicide, was released from JNIMS security ward which serves as a sub-jail, at around 6.00 pm in accordance with an order issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East.
Notably, the Court of Sessions Judge, Imphal East had dismissed the charge of attempting to commit suicide levelled against Sharmila and ordered her release on Tuesday.
Sharmila was arrested on March 14 this year under Section 309 IPC after she was released on March 13.
After her release from the security ward, Sharmila went straight to Porompat Ayangpalli along with many women activists and members of different civil society organizations, where she continued her fast.
