The French government has reportedly released a new video aimed at deterring young people from joining militant groups in the Middle East.

The two-minute-long video features hard-hitting scenes of conflict and execution and is part of efforts taken by the French government to stop the recruitment of more youngsters, often via the internet, reported the BBC.

The release came three weeks after a spate of terror attacks, carried out by home-grown jihadists, killed 17 people in Paris.

About 1,000 French residents have joined the ranks of extremist groups to fight in Syria or Iraq.
