Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Saturday said G-4 leaders noted with appreciation the efforts of member states in moving towards text-based negotiations and they have agreed to push for it.
"They agreed that we must push for text-based negotiations and a complete outcome in this the 70th anniversary year of the United Nations and for this purpose they will mobilise as broad a coalition of like-minded countries as possible," Swarup told the media here.
"We have texts for the first time after 23 years and the leaders felt that it was a very important occasion for the international community to mobilise support and come together for the long delayed reform of the UN Security Council," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a strong pitch for reforms of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), saying that it would lend greater credibility and legitimacy to the Council.
"After decades, we finally see some movement. The 69th Session of the General Assembly has taken a significant step forward to commence text-based negotiations," he said.
He was speaking outside the venue of the meeting of the G-4 bloc that comprises of India, Japan, Brazil and Germany.
