Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Sunday announced a series of measures to help revive the shipping industry in Goa and for the development of the Mormugao Port.
The minister signed a tri-partite agreement between the Goa government, the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the construction of a five kilometres stretch of a four-lane highway linking the port.
Gadkari also visited the Mormugao Port, which will be expanded and developed at an expenditure of Rs 500 crore. The minister also announced that the Mumbai-Goa highway will be developed into a four-lane highway with an expenditure of Rs 5,000 crores.
