Former Australian fast bowler Geoff Lawson has backed the current team's resurgence to help strengthen their chances of winning the ICC World Twenty20 beginning in Bangladesh this March.
Lawson marvels at Australia's 'rise from the dead' and their evolution from 'pretenders' into 'contenders' both in the international and the domestic arenas.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Lawson said that although Sheffield Shield performances did not seem to have a high correlation with selections for the Test team, it however, ensured that players of all ages who have found form in the tournament have been selected in the national 20-over squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Lawson said that Australia has a decent chance of winning the T20 World Cup if pace bowler Mitchell Johnson continues his fiery form, captain Michael Clarke keeps on scoring big and the batting order assemble a score big enough to get Nathan Lyon into the game.
Stating that he reveres the rise from the ashes of this Test team, Lawson however, said that there will be no rest for 'wicked' Australia even if they win the Cape Town Test as there is barely time to savour success or dwell on failure in the modern game, adding that with burgeoning batsmen, T20 is the way to break into Test cricket.
