Manchester United veteran midfielder boss Ryan Giggs is set to accept the No 2 position at the club under new manager Luis van Gaal after the Dutchman offered the role to the Welshman.

United hope to announce Netherlands boss Van Gaal's appointment as David Moyes' permanent successor on Thursday, but Giggs could yet decide to refuse the offer from the Dutchman although the Welshman is keen to remain at Old Trafford.

According to the Guardian, Van Gaal held discussions with Giggs at his house in his hometown Noordwijk, following which he offered the midfielder to be his No. 2 at United.

Giggs and Van Gaal reportedly met for the first time at the Dutchman's house, although the two have held discussions over the telephone last week when the Dutch boss first proposed the offer to be United's assistant manager to the Welshman.

It is yet to emerge if Giggs would also play on to extend his career at United into a 24th season, although Van Gaal might decide that he wants his No 2 to be non-playing so that the Welshman can solely focus on assisting the Dutchman, the report added.
