Former Australia fast bowler and current Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie is expected to hold talks with the ECB's Director for Cricket Andrew Strauss in the next 24 hours on the possibility of him accepting or not accepting the vacant position of head coach.
Gillespie has already spoken to Strauss on phone and will now discuss the role with him in person, the BBC reports.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) declined to comment, but did not deny that talks were scheduled.
The 40-year-old Yorkshire coach has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to replace previous coach Peter Moores, who was sacked on May 9 following a dismal World Cup and a drawn Test series in West Indies.
England is looking to appoint a successor before the Ashes.
The news came day after Gillespie said that it would "take persuading" to leave Yorkshire, who he led to the County Championship title last year.
