Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, on Wednesday, while speaking on bilateral relations with India, in a business forum, expressed his satisfaction over importing Indian goods for more than one million US dollars.
"It is true that bilateral relations are in favour of India now, and we are glad to buy goods and services for more than 1 million USD from India, while India will buy for more than 57 million USD from Uganda. Some of the main goods that we are looking into are petroleum products.
There will also be other goods which will be imported like automobiles, machine and machine parts," said Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Vice President Hamid Ansari yesterday held talks with the Ugandan President and attended a business forum, where they spoke on bilateral relations and how much India is in favour of it.
While addressing the forum, President Yoweri even announced that the East African nation will soon be ending import of assembled automobiles.
"I have already held talks with Volvo to move their assembly plant from Mombasa (Kenya) to Uganda, and have also initiated talks with Mercedes. In today's talks, I have asked Vice-President Ansari to alert Indian automobile manufacturers so that they can get it early," he said.
The Ugandan President, further speaking about strengthening the relation between the two nations, said that East African countries will be assembling vehicles here, which can grow better trade-relations between India and Uganda.
"In future, East African countries will be assisting on assembling vehicle here in Uganda and manufacturing them too. So when he (Hamid Ansari) goes back to India, he can put a word and discuss on all that we have decided, so that trade can grow. The purchasing power of Africa is growing therefore if you have the right policy we can support each other a lot," said Ugandan President.
