The Government on Thursday retired 13 Group 'A' officers of Indian Ordinance Factories Service due to their overall unsatisfactory performance.

However, according to sources, a three-month termination notice will be given to all the 13 officers. Also, they will be entitled to pensionary benefits they are eligible to as per number of years of service put in by them.

According to a report by Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) last month, Ordinance Factories Board (OFB) failed to deliver ammunition on time which resulted in shortage of 61 types of critical ammunition needed by the Indian Army.

Not only this, but CAG also observed that the quality of ammunition provided by the OFB has also degraded and is not up to the mark.

The stringent step taken by the government may be a follow action of poor performance of Indian Ordnance Factories Service.

The ordnance factories under the administrative control of Department of Defence Production of Ministry of Defence, are managed by the officers of Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS), which is an organized Group 'A' Central Service.

The Service is responsible to ensure that the ordnance factories are always geared to cater to the varied logistical needs of the Armed Forces.
