Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday said that the BJP-led NDA Government had adopted many of the old policies of the UPA regime in the 2016-17 General Budget, which was presented today by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Parliament, adding that there was no clarity in some areas.

"Implementation can be more important than speeches. It was good seeing the government has actually taken some schemes that they had opposed against the UPA in the past like the aadhar scheme and the FDI. They have now embraced them. So I think we should applaud them for learning the right lesson, even if they have learnt it late," Tharoor told ANI.

He further stated that the BJP-led NDA Government seemed to have learned from their own experiences and some of the criticism they had voiced in previous years.

"There are also areas in which there is not much clarity. I think we will have to wait and see once we study all the numbers," he added.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA Government lauded the General Budget, calling it a 'perfect progressive budget'.

However, the Congress gave thumbs down to the Budget saying it was 'high on rhetoric' and lacked any imagination.

Earlier today, Jaitley presenting the Budget for the next fiscal in the Parliament listed out the nine priority areas for the government: farmer welfare, rural sector, social sector, education skills, infrastructure, financial reforms, ease of doing business, fiscal discipline and tax reform that will transform the country.
