Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supports reservation for the various backward classes, but is not in favour of any reconsideration of reservation being extended to the ST, SC and OBC.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has always supported reservation. Reservation is necessary, but the BJP is not in favour of any reconsideration of reservation being extended to these groups; the ST, SC, OBC and extremely backward class as enshrined in the Constitution," Prasad told the media here.
"However, those who are poor, the marginal and the leftover backward community who have not been able to get the scope for development, suggestions for further consideration that can be given to those, is welcomed," he added.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has sparked a war of words over his statement calling for a review of the reservation system.
