The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council in its 27th meeting on May 4 is likely to clear the imposition of sugar cess, approximately between two to five percent, sources from Ministry of Finance told ANI.
The council, chaired by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is also expected to discuss increasing the government's stake in the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), and also the simplification of GST returns.
Another important matter likely to be reviewed is the applicability of GST on airport duty-free.
Earlier, the GST Council in its 26th meeting on March 10, decided to divide the states into four lots for the roll-out of intra-state e-way bill in April.
The Council had also extended the existing system of filing returns for another three months.
It had deferred the Reverse Charge Mechanism until July 1, and provided tax exemption to exporters for another six months.
The meeting tomorrow is scheduled to be held in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) at 11:30 am.
