State assemblies of Gujarat and Chhattisgarh will today convene special sessions to to ratify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill that was passed by Parliament earlier this month.
As per reports coming out of Ahmedabad, the Bill will be introduced in the Guajrat State Assembly today and a discussion and voting on it, if necessary, will take place on the second day.
Apart from the ratification of the GST Bill, the elections of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will also be held today.
In Chhattisgarh, a one-day session of the state assembly will discuss the GST Bill.
The Bill is likely to be ratified unanimously as the Congress has already pledged its support for the legislation.
The Congress is maintaining that the standard rate of GST should not be more than 18 per cent.
The party is holding a meeting of its MLAs this morning before the session begins.
Chief Minister Raman Singh has said that Chhattisgarh has no objection to the GST provided the Centre's compensation on loss due to the phasing out of central sales tax, is given on time.
