The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL challenging the promotion and appointment of senior police officer P.P. Pandey, who was chargesheeted in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, as the Director General of Police (DGP).
As per reports, the petition was moved by ex-DGP Julio Ribeiro in which he had questioned the legality of Pandey's promotion and appointment.
The petition was rejected by the division bench of Chief Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice V.M. Pancholi.
Pandey, who is currently out on bail, was the ADGP when he was arrested in the case.
Days after his release, Pandey was promoted to the DGP rank.
