At least 10 people were shot dead after gunmen opened fire in Nigeria's oil-rich southern city of Port Harcourt on Monday.

"We can confirm that 10 persons were shot dead today as gunmen opened fire in the early hours of the day," Anadolu news agency quoted a police spokesman Omoni Nnamdi as saying.

The police are investigating the shooting incident but have not arrested anyone so far.
