Haddin says Siddle's world Test rankings proof of Ashes readiness despite recent form

Australian vice-captain Brad Haddin has said that bowler Peter Siddle's place in the world pace pecking order, which is reportedly higher than any bowler on either side in the Ashes, proves that he is ready to lead the attack in the first Ashes Test.

According to International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings, Siddle, who holds the fifth position in the rankings, is ahead of England's bowling demons, Graeme Swann and James Anderson, who was described by England bowling coach David Saker as the most skilled bowler in the world, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Insisting that experience and track record are more important than pre-series wickets, Haddin said that although sometimes players needed to get wickets and feel confident before big games, however, Siddle has proved his capability over a long period and is aware of where he is standing.

The report added that Haddin's strong endorsement for Siddle, who admits that he struggled for rhythm and wickets in lead-up matches for Australia A and a tour match at Somerset, increases the likelihood that he will lead a pace trio comprising of James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc at Trent Bridge from Wednesday.

Stating that it is possible to judge different players by where they are at in their careers, Haddin further said that Siddle was outstanding at Australia's first training session in Nottingham on Sunday, adding that the bowler upped his fight in the game, being a seasoned campaigner.

According to the veteran wicketkeeper, Siddle is strong and ready to go, and has proven the fact that he is Australia's most experienced bowler, which can be seen in the ICC rankings.

Meanwhile, Haddin confirmed that he would bat at No.7 at Trent Bridge, although he dismissed the possibility of having to fill in as captain for Michael Clarke, whose back is a constant concern.

The report further said that although Siddle had admitted that his form is lacking following his poor shows at the Taunton game and during the A Tour, he has easily been his team's most dependable and successful fast bowler, with 33 wickets at 27 from nine matches.

Siddle is the only member, apart from Shane Watson, who have played Tests in England, the report added.
