Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez displayed a sparkling performance to help his side stage a comeback in the third and the final Test of the three-match series against England here on Tuesday.

Hafeez smashed an unbeaten knock of 97, including nine boundaries and three sixes to help Pakistan take a lead of 74 runs.

The 35-year-old all-rounder will now aim to score his ninth Test hundred when he will resume the second innings tomorrow along with Rahat Ali (0) at 146-3.

Pakistan lost opener Azhar Ali and Younis Khan for their respective scores of 34 and 14, while Shoaib Malik got dismissed for a duck.

Earlier, resuming at the yesterday's figures of 222-4, England posted the first-inning score of 306 runs, thanks to James Taylor (76).

Alastair Cook (49) and Jonny Bairstow (43) were other notable figures for England.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik and Yasir Shah bagged four and three wickets respectively for his side. Rahat Ali and Zulfiqar Babar also shared three wickets between themselves.

Pakistan are currently in a 1-0 lead in the series following their 178-run win in the second Test in Dubai.

The first Test between the two sides ended in a draw.

Pakistan will also play four ODIs and three T20s against England, starting from November 11 at Abu Dhabi.
