Former Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia on Friday was appointed as the chancellor of Gujarat Central University.
He will hold the post for a period of five years.
The appointment was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind who is a visitor of the university.
Adhia succeeds Yoginder K Alagh. The current vice-chancellor of the university is SA Bari.
Adhia is a Gujarat cadre IAS officer, who moved to Delhi in November 2014 as a secretary in the Department of Financial Services after Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister.
