Hesson claims Kiwis' win over England was a day to 'sit back and enjoy' as coach

New Zealand cricket team coach Mike Hesson has claimed that his team's win over England was one of those days when one could sit back and enjoy as a coach.

New Zealand beat England by eight wickets, inspired by a record-breaking haul of 7-33 from swing expert Tim Southee on Friday. The players have taken a deserved break now and scattered to all corners of the countries for a three-day holiday.

New Zealand would reassemble in Auckland on Tuesday to brace for Australia at a sold out Eden Park on Saturday, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Hesson had an early morning media call at Wellington Airport on Saturday as he and the players disbanded, and couldn't think of a better day for his side when they dismissed England for 123 before a packed Wellington Regional Stadium crowd of 30,148.

Hesson said that and the fact it came in such an important game it was obviously pretty pleasing, adding that it was one of those days as a coach one could sit back and enjoy it.

Hesson claimed that Southee set the tone, adding that he had the ball on a string and swung it just enough throughout the innings and was always challenging, claming that it was a bit of a masterclass.

Hesson said the short break for players and management was planned for some time, as New Zealand have eight-day gaps before their next two games against Australia then Afghanistan in Napier.
