Hesson says Ryder's hot form no 'automatic ticket back from international exile'

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, whose contract extension till April 2017 was confirmed on Wednesday, does not feel that calling Jesse Ryder in the World Cup squad would be in the team's best interest, despite the all-rounder displaying some blazing form in England.

Hesson noted Ryder's recent performances for Essex, but said that would not provide an automatic ticket back from international exile. He said that nothing has changed from the time the all-rounder left.

The coach said that New Zealand needs to make sure that all their players prepare themselves for international cricket and every time they pick a team they make those decisions, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Hesson said that when they picked the team for their tour to West Indies they didn't think Ryder was able to prepare himself accordingly. He added that they will do their due diligence and see how things are progressing, and they will make a call in the best interests of the team.

Ryder opened the batting in New Zealand's most recent ODI, against India in February, but fell foul of Hesson and his teammates with his drinking after he went out on the eve of the Auckland test later that month. He has not been considered since.
