Hillary Clinton's films dropped following protracted protests by Republicans rivals

Oscar-winning filmmaker, Charles Ferguson has reportedly dropped his plans to make a documentary on Hillary Clinton, along with a TV miniseries, as a result of protests by Republican rivals.

Ferguson faced criticism from Republicans that his documentary would promote the former US secretary of state's expected 2016 presidential run, while Democrats were reluctant to speak to him.

The filmmaker said that when he approached the ministers for interviews, he found that nobody was interested in helping him make the film, news.com.au reports.

He further said that after approaching over a hundred people, only two persons who had ever dealt with Clinton would agree to an on-camera interview, and he suspected that even they would back out.

Ferguson has won an Oscar for his 2010 documentary Inside Job, which was about the financial crisis.

He said that he began with the idea of making a film which was independent and fair on the former secretary of state, senator and first lady, however, since Clinton was not cooperating and Democrats feared it as a commercial venture, he preferred to scrap the project altogether.

According to the report, soon after Ferguson's announcement, NBC Entertainment also said that it had scrapped a planned miniseries on Clinton.

NBC said that after reviewing and prioritising their slate of movie/miniseries development, they decided to discontinue developing the Hillary Clinton miniseries, the report added.
