The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Monday termed the Hindu Mahasabha's demand for changing the image of currency notes as a 'non-issue' and added that the country should instead focus on addressing issues which are more relevant.
He was reacting to reports where the Hindu Mahasabha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding Mahatama Gandhi's image be replaced on Indian currency notes.
"I don't understand what is the need to rake up such matters now is. Narendra Modi government is already under strict scrutiny for its performance or non-performance. Therefore, it must concentrate on fighting corruption, fighting terrorism, fighting price rise, fighting unemployment, rather than talking about all these changing of photographs on the currency notes which is absolutely a non-issue," he told ANI.
The Hindu right wing outfit wants Gandhi's image to be replaced with that of Shivaji, Maharana Pratap along with image of B R Ambedkar.
