In a unique program of its kind, the HOPE Initiative recently organized a 'Training of Teachers' Workshop at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Delhi, to make teachers from various schools aware about health issues like sanitation and hygiene, Hepatitis and the need for pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

The organization has been aiming to reach out to students and community with key messages on these important issues through such workshops. The workshop was attended by more than 40 teachers from different schools of Delhi and Gurgaon.

During the four-hour workshop, health experts shared their views on the importance of ensuring proper sanitation facilities and the harmful effects of leading an unhygienic lifestyle.

For the teachers, the workshop was an eye opener. They learnt how so many life threatening diseases could be avoided by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri, with other experts, presented factual information about Hepatitis in India and how so many people become its prey just because of lack of complete information.

In its endeavor to reach out to students, HOPE has developed books on such topics, and many renowned schools have included them in their curriculum. Such IEC material developed by HOPE was also shared with the teachers at the event.

HOPE is planning to organize a series of such 'Training of Teachers' workshops for students of government and private schools across the country.

In its decade-old journey, HOPE has organized many such activities in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in the Lucknow, in association with the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Highlighting the urgent need of making the young generation aware about social and health issues, Hope Initiative Founder Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri said, "We have to understand now that apart from academic knowledge, students should be made aware about social and health issues in order to make them aware and responsible citizens. HOPE Initiative's numerous activities in this direction replicate our vision to empower the students with knowledge which can help in the prevention of many diseases in the families of these informed students".

"We are planning to organize more such activities in the National Capital Region in the coming future. But a bigger role has to be played by the schools, teachers and students themselves to make it a big success," he further added.

Dr Gourdas Choudhuri, with 25 years of academic experience behind him, is a leading gastroenterologist, medical educator, researcher, columnist and philanthropist with many publications and awards to his name.
