President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday appointed Harishankar Bramha as the new Chief Election Commissioner.
Brahma will assume the charge of the Office of Chief Election Commissioner with effect from January 16 consequent upon demitting the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner by V.S. Sampath.
Brahma is a retired I.A.S. officer of the 1975 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
