Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes has admitted that he may lose his Test place to the forgiven David Warner when he returns from the Australia A tour of southern Africa with 193 under his belt, ahead of the third Ashes Test.

According to Telegraph.com.au, Hughes would replace Chris Rogers as an opening batsman at Old Trafford if Australia was thinking about the future and not the present, although he may be sacrificed despite being the leading first class run scorer on tour as Australia is desperate to hold things together after the debacle at Lord's.

Hughes said that he is aware that with the return of Warner and a bad loss in the second Test at Lord's, someone, probably himself, is likely to go, although he added that it is a good thing to have competition and expressed his pleasure to see Warner score big after his problems both on and off the field.

Admitting that he has no idea about the selectors' decisions, Hughes also said that changes are bound to happen to a team when it loses Test matches, adding that a team needed to find the right balance and improve the best they can in these games.

However, Hughes said that it would have been better for him if he had gotten to three figures, although he added that scoring runs in the middle is better than being in the nets.

Hughes further said that he felt confident and is hoping to be in the squad for the third Test, although coach Darren Lehmann and captain Michael Clarke are desperate for players to make big scores.
