'I am deeply hurt by current crisis in Indian cricket', says Jagdale

BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale, who has quit from his post in a bid to put pressure on cricket board's President N. Srinivasan, has said that he was 'deeply hurt' by the recent revelations of spot-fixing in the country.

"I was deeply hurt by the latest developments that took place in Indian cricket. I was hurt just in a way millions of cricket fans have been hurt since I as a former player am attached to the game for so long. Some changes must be done to restore the early status of game in the country," he told the media in Indore.

Jagdale also said he would no longer be a part of the three-member inquiry commission set up by the BCCI to go into allegations against Srinivasan's son-in-low Gurunath Meiyappan, who was arrested on charges of betting in IPL, and Rajasthan Royals franchise.

BCCI Treasurer Ajay Shirke has also put down his papers.

Meanwhile, commenting on the decision of two top BCCI officials to step down from their respective posts, the President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), G Vinod, said that the working committee of BCCI would take up the issue at its next meeting.

However, he did not specify the date, time and venue of this meeting.

"In that process, it will again be decided in the Working Committee (of BCCI) and on the grounds that these two gentlemen (Sanjay Jagdale and Ajay Shirke) have resigned, I think this is a matter in which the Working Committee will take an appropriate decision," he told the media in Hyderabad.

According to reports, Srinivasan has convened an Emergency Working Committee meeting on June 8 hours after information spilled out that the ICC had warned his son-in-law to keep away from bookies at the start of IPL.

The chorus for Srinivasan's ouster as BCCI President has grown louder with BCCI heavyweights appearing to be firm his resignation. Union Minister and former BCCI boss Sharad Pawar has also joined in the attack on him.

The Sports Ministry has also sought to put pressure on Srinivasan, and said that he should tender his resignation on moral grounds, pending the outcome of the inquiry.

Despite suggestions from BCCI heavyweights- Rajeev Shukla and Arun Jaitley-that he should disassociate himself from the procedures of the inquiry commission investigating the spot-fixing scandal, Srinivasan has so far showed no signs of relenting under pressure.

A Mumbai Court yesterday extended the police custody of actor Vindoo Dara Singh and BCCI President N. Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan till June 3.

The Mumbai Crime Brach yesterday recorded the statement of Chennai hotelier Vikram Agarwal, a friend of Meiyappan.

Three players of Rajasthan Royals team S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila as well as over a dozen of bookies have so far been arrested on suspicion of spot-fixing in the IPL matches.

Chavan has been granted conditional bail till June 6 for his wedding by a Delhi Court. He had sought bail on the ground that his marriage is fixed for June 2.
