ICC should take cognizance of allegations against Dinesh Mongia, says Chetan Chauhan

Following Lou Vincent's allegations against Dinesh Mongia's involvement in match-fixing during the Indian Cricket League (ICL), former Test opener Chetan Chauhan urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take cognizance of it and prevent a repeat of such incidents.

The Arjuna Awardee stressed that every league should be banned and only Indian Premier League (IPL) must be allowed to carry on.

The 68-year-old, however, admitted that the IPL has commercialised the sport, but added that nowadays, every sport is commercialised.

Chauhan insisted that cricket is a pure sport, and therefore, it is necessary to ensure that these type of issues should not affect the game.

The former batsman informed that each department of cricket consists of anti-corruption unit to manage these issues, including at junior level.

Meanwhile, commenting on the ODI skipper Dhoni's struggle with the form, Chetan said that he couldn't say anything right now and would only comment after the series against South Africa.

Earlier, Vincent had revealed that Dinesh Mongia was a key member of the gang that was involved in match-fixing during Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Vincent had also admitted that he got 'direct orders' from the then New Zealand skipper Chris Cairns to take part in fixing while they were playing for the Chandigarh Lions in the ICL.

All-rounder Cairns, who is currently facing perjury charges over involvement in match-fixing, saw his reputation take a beating when the former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi accused him of match-fixing. (ANI)
