ICC urged to investigate 'unconstitutional' appointment of acting PCB chairman Sethi

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been urged by Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) to investigate what it calls the 'unconstitutional' appointment of Najam Sethi as acting chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to the Daily Times, although one of the clauses in the amended PCB constitution states that in case the chairman's post falls vacant for more than 45 days, only a board member could replace him, however, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ignored the clause and brought in Sethi, a prominent political analyst.

According to the TIP, the ICC should adhere to its own principles to ensure corruption-free cricket in the world and to observe that national boards follow their own constitutions, which are also approved by the ICC.

The ICC had said that Sethi, appointed after the Islamabad High Court ordered the government to replace Mohammad Zaka Ashraf, would represent Pakistan at the board meeting in London.

Sethi also has said he has no plans to stay for a long period, and will make way for the new full-time chairman once he attends the ICC meeting, gives approval of the team for next month's tour to West Indies, and conducts fair and transparent elections for the new PCB chief.
