Independent owner Evgeny Lebedev has reportedly said that the newspaper could be for sale if he is offered the right price.

However, he was quick to add that he was not actively trying to sell it.

According to the BBC, Lebedev, also the owner of the London Evening Standard and the Independent's sister newspaper, i, is launching London Live, a 24-hour television network dedicated to news, entertainment and culture in the capital.

He said that together the Independent and the i newspaper were now incurring a lesser loss of 5 million pounds a year as compared to 20 million pounds last year.
