India and England are aiming to improve their positions in the Reliance ICC Test Team Rankings Table with the help of the five-Test series between the two nations, which gets underway in Nottingham on Wednesday.

Currently India occupies fourth position with 102 ratings points, while England is one spot behind with 100 ratings points and depending upon the outcome of the Test series, both teams could go as high as number three or drop to as low as number seven.

If India wins the series it would help them leapfrog Pakistan into third position, but England needs to win the series by a difference of no less than two Tests to take on third place.

If England wins the series by just one Test it would them swap places with India.

Meanwhile, both teams could potentially drop to number seven as well.

If India wins all five Tests, then Alastair Cook's side would fall down to seventh position, while a 4-1 series result would see England slip to sixth.

Conversely, if England wins the series by 4-0 or better, then India would drop to seventh spot.
