India has outdone China on an international corruption index, a new report said.
Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries on a scale of 100 points, where zero means "highly corrupt" and 100 means "very clean." While India stood 85th on the list out of 174 and scored 38 points, China fell down to the 100th place with 36 points.
China slipped down by four points and India improved its performance by two points as compared to the last year.
Other nations like, Jamaica, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago and Zambia also stood at par with India.
Jose Ugaz, the chair of Transparency International, said in a press release that the Corruption Perceptions Index highlights the problems that emerging economies have with public sector corruption, misappropriation of funds and bribery. It's based on perceptions of public sector corruption, from the perspective of business people and country experts.
