India's environmental targets fulfilled at Paris: Javadekar

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that India's environmental targets have been fulfilled at the Conference of Parties 21 (COP21) climate change meet in Paris.

"A very good agreement took place in Paris, which was welcomed globally. All the expectations of India got fulfilled there. Main thing is environment has won," Javadekar told media here.

He said that he will brief Parliament about the developments in Paris and how it will benefit India.

"COP21 meet has been organized to make countries aware of the environment. These will help the future generation. I will make statement in the Parliament on this issue of environment," he added.

Meanwhile, world leaders hailed the Paris climate deal as a 'major leap for mankind' as almost 200 countries signed the historic pledge to hold global temperatures to a maximum rise of 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.
