India's stature in the world will grow with Modi at the helm, says Baba Ramdev

Yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, has said that with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) prime minister- designate Narendra Modi at the helm of affairs after a historic win in the general election, the stature of India will rise vis-a-vis giants like the United States (US) and China.

Addressing a gathering in New Delhi, Ramdev expressed his confidence in the leadership of Modi.

"Now Indian languages will get respect, patriotism will be honoured, saints will be revered, Indian culture will be appreciated and India will hold its head high before the rest of the world. India will be able to stand on an equal platform as US and China and our rupee will not be demeaned before the dollar and the pound," Ramdev said.

Ramdev was speaking at an event to celebrate the stupendous win of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent general elections.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP President, Rajnath Singh, said that the BJP was the only party since independence which could look Congress in the eye.

"Since the time we have got independence, many political parties took birth and expired. A few parties that survived were not able to expand their stature above the Congress .In independent India, if any party was able to gain a political stature above the Congress, it is the party that got the mandate and that is the Bharatiya Janata Party," said Singh.

Last Friday, Narendra Modi, thundered to a historic victory resulting in a seismic political shift that gives the BJP a mandate for sweeping economic reforms.

Modi's win was the most resounding election victory the country has seen in 30 years and was welcomed with a blistering rally on India's stock markets and raucous celebrations at BJP offices across the country, where supporters danced, let off fireworks and handed out sweets.

Modi's sweeping win closes off a chapter of fragile coalition governments, giving the former tea-seller ample room to advance reforms started 23 years ago by outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but which have stalled in recent years.
