Council Members of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata called on President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan here today.
Addressing the Council members, Mukherjee welcomed them to the historic building of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and said that the institute has made an exemplary contribution in research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences.
The draft Second Five Year Plan also known as Mahalanobis model was drafted at the ISI.
The president said that he had been associated with ISI for several years.
He further stated that there were challenging times ahead as knowledge was expanding very fast and specialization was becoming the key word.
Mukherjee briefly interacted with the Council Members.
Representatives of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Ministry of Finance were also present on the occasion.
