Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board, headed by AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan.

Gupta, while requesting Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal for the same, alleged that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has turned "blind eye" to the serious corruption and rampant irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board.

"Amanatullah Khan has recently handed over Waqf properties worth more than 100 crore rupees to unauthorized persons without following due process," said Gupta.

"Khan is guilty of unlawfully creating and filling up 36 posts of different categories in Delhi Waqf Board to his relatives, friends and favorites. He is trying to unlawfully open bank accounts in the name of the Board to siphon-off huge sums for his personal gratification," alleged Gupta.

The leader of opposition alleged that there is a "grave misconduct whereby the concerned officials have committed breach of trust and are prima-facie guilty of alienating valuable Waqf properties by the acts of omission and commission while being fully aware of the provisions of law and procedures to be followed by the board".

"Khan appointed 37 of his favourites in Delhi Waqf Board throwing all procedures rules and regulations to the winds. The Walk-in-Interview was organized for various posts in the Board on 1st and 2nd March this year," said Gupta.

He said that the matter is very serious as "no direct recruitment can be done by the Chairman without the prior approval of the Revenue Secretary, Delhi Administration as well as the concerned Minister for Waqf Board of Delhi Government and there is a proper procedure for the recruitment for the various posts".

Vijender Gupta alleged that Chairman is also trying to open the bank account without the approval CEO and he wants to withdraw the huge amount for his personal purpose and therefore, the said matter is also a very serious matter.

He urged LG that CBI enquiry should be ordered against the "wrongdoers" and further all the properties filed should be requisitioned by the CBI and the walk-in-interview should be cancelled and the entire record of the concerned files be also taken by the CBI as well as by the concerned authorities.
