Australian opener Usman Khawaja is likely to miss the upcoming Test series against India owing to a knee injury.
The 31-year-old sustained a meniscal tear to his left knee during a warm-up session on Day Three of their ongoing second Test against Pakistan. He is likely to undergo a knee surgery in order to treat the same, cricket.com.au reported.
Reflecting on Khawaja's injury, pacer Peter Siddle said that many players of the team were unaware of the incident till they came to know that the left-hander would not be joining them for the beginning of the day's play.
He further hoped for the speedy recovery of the opening batsman.
"Nah we didn't see it, some of the guys might've but I didn't, he hasn't really said too much. It was just something in the warm-up, we were throwing the ball. So that's about all I know, I don't know what specifically happened, but something so small it's kept him out," ESPNcricinfo.com quoted Siddle, as saying.
"Just fingers crossed for him, hopefully it comes back positive for him and he can get back out there," he added.
Khawaja had suffered a similar injury in his left knee in 2014, resulting in his ouster from the team for seven months.
Australia are slated to play a four-match Test series against India from December 6 to January 7.
