Indian cricketer Murali Vijay has been ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle due to a hamstring strain.
Indian team director Ravi Shastri confirmed the absence of player, saying that Vijay is still under recovery and will not be fit for the first Test.
"On the team front, injury front, Murali Vijay will not be fit for the first test as he is still under recovery. He is not fully recovered and we don't want to take a chance for this first test match," he told the media here.
Shastri further said that the openeing batsman would be missed in the Test.
"It is a big blow. He is in form and has had a fabulous run. In test match cricket, he has the ability to play the long innings. So, he will be missed because he is an experienced player," he added.
India will play the three-Test series against Sri Lanka from August 12.
