Former Pakistani captain and coach Intikhab Alam has joined the numerous voices supporting Pakistan ahead of the series against South Africa, saying that the side is a well-balanced team and has a good chance of beating even a strong opponent like South Africa, which is currently the world's best Test team.
Pakistan will play two Tests, five one-day and two Twenty20 internationals against the Proteas in a series, which starts in Abu Dhabi on October 14, with the second Test in Dubai from October 23.
According to The Nation, although Pakistan has yet to win a Test series ever since Dav Whatmore took charge of the team in 2012, Alam however, backed the side, saying that they play well against big teams despite their batting concerns, adding that the bowling attack have always been a plus for Pakistan.
Stating that he is confident that Pakistan would be ready to take on South Africa and beat them, Alam defended Whatmore, saying that Whatmore is experienced and will do what is right and good for the team, adding that the team should show confidence in him as the board has given him the go-ahead for the UAE series.
However, Alam also said that the coach is blamed whenever a team is not doing well, adding that if results are not successful, then the coach is not good enough for the team.
