Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief Jayalalithaa on Thursday that it is 'unfortunate' that Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been invited to the oath taking ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi.
"Unfortunate move of inviting Sri Lanka President to attend swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister has deeply upset the people of Tamil Nadu," said Jayalalithaa.
"With regard to the relationship of the new Central Government with the Tamil Nadu Government, it would have been better if this ill advised move had been avoided," she added.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's office has confirmed that he would fly to Delhi for Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
Modi's swearing-in ceremony, to be held at the forecourt of the historic Rashtrapati Bhavan, will take place on Monday and is likely to be attended by as many as 3,000 guests.
India has invited leaders of all South Asian countries, including Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, to the oath-taking ceremony.
