Mumbai Indians bowlers came out with a stunning performance to help their team register a record 146-run over Delhi Daredevils in their IPL clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 213, the home side were bowled out for mere 66 runs in 13.4 overs. The 146-run win margin was the largest in the tournament's 10-year-history.
Karun Nair (21), Corey Anderson (10) and Pat Cummins (10) were the only Delhi Daredevils batsmen who could reach the double figure mark.
Delhi, who had chased down 209-run target set by Gujarat Lions in their previous match here, lost five batsmen in the powerplay overs with only 35 runs on the board.
And from there, the home team never could stage a comeback. For Mumbai, Karn Sharma completed the game with figures of three for 11 in 3.4 overs.
Earlier, the Zaheer Khan-led side allowed Lendl Simmons and Kieran Pollard to hit blistering half-centuries as the visitors posted a gigantic total of 212/3 in their stipulated quota of 20 overs.
Simmons, playing his first match of the tournament, played a stupendous knock of 66 from 43 deliveries, featuring 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Pollard scored a belligerent 63 not out off 35 balls, milking 4 sixes.
Pollard later got good support from Hardik Pandya (29* off 14) as they helped Mumbai register a mighty total---which they defended quite easily.
The win over Delhi made the Rohit Sharma-led side the first team to qualify for the play-offs.
On the other hand, Delhi have suffered a big blow to their play-off chances after the loss, but they can still qualify by winning all their remaining matches and hope of other results to go their way as well.
On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium while Kings XI Punjab will lock horns with Gujarat Lions at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
