IPL spot fix row: Sreesanth, eighteen others get bail

A Delhi Court on Monday granted bail to nineteen accused in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case, including Rajasthan Royals cricketers S. Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan.

Another Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ajit Chandila, who was arrested along with Sreesanth and Ankeet, will still be in jail, as he had not applied for bail.

The court observed there is no reason for believing that the accused are guilty under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) at this stage.

Delhi Police had arrested 19 people, including three cricketers S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan of Rajasthan Royals and 16 bookies and punters who were allegedly involved in spot-fixing during the recently-concluded IPL series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier today held a meeting here and decided to suspend Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra, who has been accused of betting during the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.

According to reports, the BCCI in its meeting held today under the chairmanship of interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya also had discussions on various reforms to clean the game of cricket and the cash-rich IPL tournament in particular.

In an attempt to distance itself from Kundra, the Rajasthan Royals management had last week said that he had no involvement in running of the franchise and would be suspended if found guilty.

Delhi Police had earlier last week claimed that Raj Kundra has admitted to betting in the IPL.
