Islamic State (IS) militants have claimed responsibility for a suicide car bomb attack near Baghdad airport against a United Nations convoy.

According to News24, the group said in a statement that Abu Muawiya al-Falluji rammed a convoy for the "UN waging war against Muslims surrounded by heavy US protection".

Suicide attacker's name suggests he was an Iraqi from the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah that is 40km west of Baghdad.

The militants also alleged that the Iraqi government had taken away the bodies of U.S. personnel.

The police said that three people had been injured.
