Islamic State (IS) militants have launched their own version of Facebook called "Khelafabook" that shows a map of the world on the homepage with an IS logo over all the continents.

According to the Express Tribune, the site that resembles Facebook is currently down to protect the identity of its members, a message on the site reads.

The message also stated that the purpose of launching the website is to allow the group and its supporters to communicate after numerous pro-IS accounts were suspended on social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook.

The site stated that it is an independent organisation and is not sponsored by the IS.

A twitter account linked to the new IS social networking site has already started promoting the page on Twitter.
