Two new additions have been made to the New Zealand Test squad to tour Bangladesh next month, with leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and all-rounder Corey Anderson being the fresh faces.
According to stuff.co.nz, the Northern Districts pair was confirmed in the 15-man squad named by coach Mike Hesson and new general manager national selection, Bruce Edgar.
With Tim Southee and Martin Guptill ruled out, they are the only changes to the 15-man squad who lost 2-0 in England in May as the selectors look to provide continuity, the report said.
Hesson said that Sodhi had shown some consistency with the ball on the current NZ A tour and Corey gives the squad options as he can bat in the top six and also provide useful bowling.
He said that the Bangladesh tour is a good opportunity to introduce a promising spinner and having two specialist spinners in the squad could give the team the option to utilize wickets that are likely to turn.
The squad leaves for a pre-tour camp in Sri Lanka on September 22 before heading to Bangladesh and the first test starts in Chittagong on October 9, with the second in Dhaka on October 21, the report said.
New Zealand test squad to tour Bangladesh: Brendon McCullum (c), Peter Fulton, Hamish Rutherford, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Dean Brownlie, Tom Latham, BJ Watling, Corey Anderson, Bruce Martin, Doug Bracewell, Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, Mark Gillespie, Ish Sodhi.
