Ishrat Jahan encounter: M. G. Vaidya says truth will prevail

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader M. G. Vaidya on Wednesday expressed surprise over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not naming any politician in its chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan case, and said the law will hopefully take its course and the truth will prevail.

"Initially there were talks about the civil administration people being involved. The name of the Intelligence Bureau officer who was involved is also missing. Not one politician has been named in the chargesheet. The law will hopefully take its course and the truth will prevail," Vaidya said.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has held that Ishrat Jahan was killed in a fake encounter in 2004 and chargesheeted seven police officers in the case, saying it was a joint operation between Gujarat police and the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau.

Those against whom the charge sheet was filed for murder and criminal conspiracy include absconding Additional DGP P. P. Pandey and suspended DIG D. G. Vanzara.

"The encounter was a joint operation between Gujarat police and Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the state," CBI said in the charge sheet on Wednesday, adding, "the encounter was fake".

The CBI told the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H. S. Khutwad that their investigation has established offence against all seven police officers charge sheeted in the case.
