Two people have been killed and around seven people were injured after an explosion ripped through a major tourist shopping area in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Independent reported that seven people have been wounded in the blast in Istiklal Street, a wide street lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and foreign consulates.

Helicopters and ambulances were seen converging on the scene as rescue efforts continued.

Casualty figures has not been yet confirmed.

The blast came after a bombing claimed by a Kurdish militant group killed 37 people in Ankara on Sunday.
